  22. Introduction

  24.     As time goes by, more and more Mainframe Systems are being down 
  25. sized to run on PC's. One of the biggest setbacks is that the PC has many types 
  26. of software which create different file formats, like lotus 123, Word for 
  27. windows, PKZIP, etc. So your file may be saved in any one of hundreds of formats
  28. and therefore, you might not know what software created it. The JSREC utility 
  29. will simplify the task of determining which software package created your file.

  31.     The JSREC program must be provided with a file name or  
  32.    a directory name to govern its execution.

  34.    For example:
  35.            JSREC C:\<FILENAME>                To get the file type 
  36.                           for a single file.
  37.     
  38.            JSREC C:\<DIRECTORYNAME>\*.*       To get the file type
  39.            JSREC C:\<DIRECTORYNAME>\*.DOC     for every file in a
  40.                           directory.

  43.    Option #1: Every time a file is identified, there will be a beep. To      
  44.           shut off the beep;  type: /nobeep after the command.

  46.    For example:
  47.            JSREC C:\<DIRECTORYNAME>\*.DOC /NOBEEP

  50.    Option #2: If JSREC cannot identify a file type, it will display
  51.           the file name without the type. If you do not want to
  52.           see the names of the files which JSREC could not 
  53.           identify, Then type: /know after the command.

  56.            JSREC C:\<DIRECTORYNAME>\*.DOC /KNOW

  59.  Upgrades
  60.     If you happen to find a file format which this program cannot identify, 
  61.     please contact us so that we can modify the code to recognize that file 
  62.     format. In return for your assistance in this matter, we may send you a 
  63.     copy of the updated program for free.

  68.   I will keep improving the program if I know enough people are
  69.   finding it useful.

  71.   My registration policy is very flexible. The nominal fee is $15 US
  72.   If you don't feel you will get $15 worth of use out of JSREC, send
  73.   whatever it is worth to you. If you are impoverished and can't
  74.   afford to pay anything, enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope
  75.   and I will send you a registration.

  77.   This is not freeware or public domain. Shareware is simply a means
  78.   of marketing commercial software. You are required to register if
  79.   you intend to use this program after a reasonable trial period.

  82.   and where you obtained your copy of JSREC.

  87.   can be used simultaneously at your site. Site fees for commercial
  88.   users can be negotiated.

  92.   Some Free Demo's.  if you decide to use it after a trial period. I will

  105.     Hitting Control-C (or Control-Break) will terminate the program
  106.     immediately.

  112.     as long as no more than $5 is charged. It must be made clear to
  113.     the buyer that this is only a handling charge and not a
  114.     registration fee. You must include all files in their original
